1.0 Suzanne Shaw, VP for Marketing & Communications
Suzanne started at MSU July 2014. She was invited to attend FAC to talk about messaging, internal and external. Some messages are pertinent, some are not. In January 2015, the first Inside Missouri State came out featuring a message from President Smart, and other groups. Suzanne recommended having one weekly newsletter (message) go out to everyone instead of all of the separate ones that used to go out in the past. The mass email policy was also shared by Suzanne. Mass emails must be approved by the VP of the division, or Clif Smart, before being sent out. Regarding College DLs, the Dean has to approve them first. Suzanne recommended having a specific day (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday), for newsletters to be published and discussed how routines can sometimes be helpful.
Messaging / communication / news story requests must go through Suzanne and our News Media Office. At times they put messages together prior to something that may be coming, such as the message this past Sunday regarding no classes on Monday until 4 p.m. Suzanne is the designated person on campus to direct news reporters, etc. No matter what someone may personally feel about a topic, the message/reply is how the university feels about it. On occasion she does messaging for the Board of Governors. Regarding President Trump’s visit, communication was out there, but not everyone read it. Her office is looking at the policy regarding people/organizations wanting to schedule events here. They need to be consistent with everyone.
Suzanne’s office can also provide guidance on questionable requests/intent that faculty, staff, and administrators might receive. Her office always tries to respond by email so everything is in writing.
If you want something important released, such as the one that went out recently on Bear POWER, contact Andrea Mostyn.
2.0 Program Support Requests
Fourteen program support requests were submitted for consideration. The Leadership Council (tomorrow) and Budget Committee (Friday) will be discussing these. The total amount requested is approximately $41,000.00. There is not enough in the budget to fund all of them, so FAC ratings will be used by the LC and BC to make final decisions. Faculty who submitted the requests will be notified by the end of January. The Dean requested FAC members who did not have their scoring guides at the meeting this morning to send them to him by the end of the day today. The scoring guides were created by the department heads. The scoring guides will be tallied and a summary report will be shared with the LC and BC.
3.0 Provost Advisory Council
Linda Garrison-Kane, CLSE, is on this council. Another member from the rank of professor in our college needs to be selected to replace Deanne Camp by this Friday. Some department heads invited faculty to volunteer. Dean Hough will seek guidance from the FAC prior to forwarding a name to the Provost’s Office. The dean will talk to LC tomorrow.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
