- Welcome – Bill Agnew
Everyone was welcomed to the meeting. - College Council Members for 2016-17
Bill Agnew (CLSE) and Deanne Camp (RFT) were re-elected for another term (2 years).

The March 15th minutes were approved. - Action Items
a. Curricular Proposal – NEW COURSES
Childhood Education and Family Studies
– ECE 399 Field Experiences in Early Childhood Education – APPROVED- ECE 400 Special Topics in Early Childhood Education – APPROVED, with the following added to comments: This is a non-substantive change.b. Curricular Proposal – CHANGE COURSES
Reading Foundations and Technology
– EDT 365 Educational Applications of Technology and Media – APPROVED– ELE 425 Methods of Teaching Communication Arts in Elementary Schools – APPROVED with the following replacing the information in the “Reason for proposed change” box:
ELE teacher candidates need to demonstrate mastery of content required of elementary teachers to progress through the teacher preparation program and to comply with new DESE requirements for minimum grade point averages in their major. Faculty can monitor student content knowledge development through prerequisite minimum grade requirements in professional education and content courses throughout the program. Prerequisite minimum grade requirements in professional education and content courses help to assure that ELE teacher candidates will meet new DESE requirements at graduation. - Old Business
-COE College Council Rules and Regulations document
Bill Agnew will email the document to ranked faculty to ask for approval. - New Business
- COE College Council Chair Position
Dr. James Sottile, Assoc. Dean, attended the meeting to oversee the election of a new chair. Bill Agnew was nominated and approved. His position will fall under the new COE College Council Bylaws, Rules and Regulations document once approved by faculty. - Student Representative
The three department heads will be emailed in August and be asked to have their faculty nominate and send the names of two students who would be interested in being a member of COE College Council for 2016-2017. A student representative will then be elected at the September 6, 2016 meeting, following the guidelines in the Bylaws, Rules and Regulations.
