Ms. Toni Bass Receives Leadership Award

Ms. Toni Bass, Logan-Rogersville Primary School Principal was surprised last Friday by L-R faculty, administrators, school board members, and the Missouri State University College of Education Leadership Team who presented her with the Transformational Leadership Award. This award is given to an outstanding P-12 school partner who works collaboratively with the MSU COE to prepare future educators. Ms. Bass helped develop the year-long Internship Academy and has provided exemplary school leadership over the past four years as interns, master teachers, teachers in residence, and university faculty work together to prepare early childhood educators.

Executive Budget Committee Report from Dr. Pearman
Good news for Missouri State University.  On May 8th, President Smart informed the Executive Budget Committee that the Senate approved a higher education bill that includes a $10 million appropriation for MSU.  Now that the bill has passed both the House and Senate, the final conference should be approved today. President Smart will share more detailed information once the bill is approved.

IT Needs for Fall 2019

Per Jim Taylor, Coordinator of COE Data Management…

“The semester is winding down, and some of you have your minds on summer plans.  Before you go, please take a little time to think about your technology needs for the fall semester.  If you will be taking part in technology activities as part of, or in addition to, your regular duties, look at what your technology needs will be.  Email Sharon Lopinot, sharonlopinot@missouristate.edu.  Sharon will contact me, who along with Sam and Rubin can have time needed prior to the end of this semester and summer to determine if COE has the resources to support those activities.  This is especially true if you need to borrow equipment, even for only short periods of time.  Giving us a chance to prepare will go a long way toward making next semester run as smoothly as possible.”

Three First-Year Students in SAHE M.S. Program Recognized at  26th Annual Einhellig Graduate Interdisciplinary Forum

Dr. Nicole West, Asst. Professor, CLSE, reported that three first-year students in the Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) M.S. program were recognized at the 26th Annual Einhellig Graduate Interdisciplinary Forum for outstanding oral presentations: Elayna Coleman, McKenzie Mathewson (pictured with Dean Julie Masterson, Dr. Nicole West, and Provost Frank Einhellig), and Aidan Williams. Elayna’s project was titled, “Experiences and Perceptions of Food Insecure Students at Missouri State University.” McKenzie’s project was titled, “The Impact of Social Media Usage on Missouri State University Students’ Mental Health.” Aidan’s project was titled, “Post-College Transition: Service-Learning and Soft-Skill Acquisition for Upperclassmen.”

In addition, under the mentorship of Dr. West, 11 other first-year SAHE students presented their research via poster presentations and nine second-year SAHE students delivered oral research presentations.

McKenzie and Elayna also presented their research at MSU’s Impact Summit: College Student Mental Health Conference.
