Dean Hough introduced Margie Stewart, Asst. Director-Career Center-Employer Relations, and Jerri Arnold-Cook, Career Center Resources Specialist. Jerri told the group she would work with students in COE and serve as the Career Center liaison with our college. Margie will organize the Education Career Fair, host employers for on-campus interviews, Mock Interview days, and Resume Madness events. On July 1st, the Career Center launched a new program, “Handshake”. This program for students to apply for internships, paid and unpaid. It can also lead to jobs. The employers on Handshake are looking for students and new grads only. Margie and Jerri offered to attend department meetings to discuss the program. Margie said that this should also help with the knowledge rate, which is the percentage of students who have reported firm plans following graduation. The Cartwright School District, located in Phoenix, Arizona, is having an information session on Monday, September 23, 6:00 p.m., Hill Hall 101. They come to the university every year to interview for teachers. Interviews will be scheduled for September 24 and 25.
Barri Tinkler reported that the CAEP addendum was submitted last week. They will need a few more things prior to the CAEP visit and are in the process of drafting a tentative schedule and identifying potential sessions. They will work with EPPC leadership regarding whom to invite to the sessions.
Dean Hough was contacted by a Greenwood alum from the class of 1969. A group of them are touring Greenwood this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. They would like to tour Hill Hall after that. If anyone would like to assist Dean Hough with the Saturday morning tour, please let him know before 5:00 p.m. Friday.
Leadership Council for September 12th will be held in Gohn Hall 209 on the West Plains campus. The dean, department heads and others will attend the meeting to discuss student recruitment and retention. James will be driving a suburban. Students must certify they will only graduate in May 2020 or later with a research project, thesis, or non-thesis (seminar) project. Sharon will re-send the information. Around the Table
James Satterfield
Kelly Wynne is the new CLSE assistant professor of counseling. Marian Green is now working in the associate dean’s office. Marian did a great job working at CLSE and especially while Judy was out.
Denise Cunningham
She asked if our building could have technical support Monday through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There have been a number of times when someone starting a class at 4:00 pm has tech problems and there is no one in the building to help them. The Dean will talk to Jim Taylor. Stephanie also offered to help if she is here. International Services is recruiting for CEFS in Japan this week. They are promoting a Child Life undergrad/grad program for them. Dianna Piccolo, Deanna Smith and Jane Ward planned a MOETS Conference in West Plains for October. A number of students will be attending.
Karen Engler
MEES trainings are nearing completion. This year DESE implemented a tracking system to show that all supervisors have either completed the training in person or elsewhere. MSU EPPC leadership agreed to accept MEES trainings from other IHEs.
Kim Dubree
There are 272 students applying for student teaching in the Spring. Karla Ferguson’s position has been posted. Over 25 applications have been submitted thus far.
Juli Panza
Juli noted that a good number of COE faculty/staff participated in “House Calls” this fall. She received two sample event flyers from University Communications. Anyone is welcome to use one as a format. She has various letters regarding majors with information that she sends to students who declare a major when admitted. She also has one for those interested in secondary education, which Karen Engler will look at regarding updating information. Juli has a number of faculty volunteers for the Majors Fair on September 26th, but could use a few more for the Fall Showcase on November 2nd.
Stephanie Huffman
The Literacy position is posted. The posting for the Middle School opening should be up by September 15th. Next week their department Face Book page should be running. She thanked Emmett who worked hard on increasing their Fall enrollment numbers.

Dean Hough
Rhonda Bishop is taking the lead on the Bears in Every Building program. The dean noted that Rhonda is planning events, i.e., receptions at conferences to recruit more “Bears”. This is an open invitation to anyone who may want to work with her. The Dean’s Community Advisory Council will meet on October 2, 2019, in the Crystal Ballroom at the Kentwood Arms, and the Dean’s Student Advisory Council will meet on October 3, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m., Hill 339. Department heads are invited to attend. The list of members needs to be updated. Sharon will send the list to department heads to see who needs to be replaced and to send suggestions of new students to the Dean by the middle of next week, so invitations can be sent ASAP.
