CAEP Update
As noted in the last Post, the CAEP site team recommendations are very favorable, noting only two areas for improvement. We will submit factual corrections to the report before the end of the day today. We will then submit a Rejoinder addressing the two AFIs by the middle of January 2020. Dr. Tinkler and Dean Hough will be present at the CAEP Accreditation Council meeting in April 2020 when the final decision is made. We will inform the MSU community as soon as possible after the AC provides us with written notification.
If you would like to read the site team’s report, our factual corrections, and or the Rejoinder; please drop by Dr. Tinkler’s office. We will keep hard copies there for your perusal. Because CAEP considers these documents to be confidential until after the Accreditation Council (AC) meets in January 2020, it is prudent to keep this information internal. Even so, we are pleased to share it with interested faculty and staff.
Thanks again to the scores of individuals from across campus as well as our community and school partners who worked so hard for so long on this accreditation effort. Many provided information, wrote narratives, shared data, and participated in interviews. Your work has paid off. Thanks to all.
Partnership with ELE410 and Greenwood First Grade Classroom
Dr. Melinda Hammerschmidt’s first grade class (Greenwood Laboratory School) collaborated with Dr. Chloe Bolyard and Mrs. Cindy McMeley’s ELE 410 students who surveyed, planned, and conducted small group lessons. Seventy five education students participated in teaching the lessons aligned to the first grade social studies learning standards. Planning began in September for the partnership collaboration. Small groups worked in the Haseltine Library, the Greenwood conference room, and first grade classroom.
Monday’s lessons centered on cultural characteristics, ideas, and beliefs found in the classroom, school, and community. Students learned about various ways that cultures celebrate during the winter holiday and then compared and contrasted these to their own winter cultural experiences. Tuesday’s lessons were focused on basic economic principles and concepts. Students learned about scarcity, consumers, producers, goods, and services within the school and community. Wednesday’s lessons focused on geography, reading and constructing maps, the purpose of the map for various settings in the school and classroom, and using the compass rose to identify cardinal directions.

Delivery Assistance Requested for Bears in Every Building Swag
Attached a list of Bear Swag for our Bears in Every Building that needs to be delivered to schools across the state. If you are going to any of these locations, would you please consider delivering some of the packages? The list is sorted by school district. This could save our committee a lot of time and the packets can get into the hands of our Bears quicker! Here is how it works:
- Review the list below. If you see any Bears in Buildings you can deliver to, please write your name in the last column titled: Person Delivering and the DATE you are going.
- I will check the database a couple of times a week; Mondays and Fridays. If I see your name on the list I will a. Contact the Dean’s office to retrieve the package and b. Will contact the Bear you are delivering for so they know you are coming.
- If you have a quick turnaround that will miss my check-in days, please email me! I will get the packages out quicker.
- Deliver and take pictures and send them to me. Use Boomer in the picture, too (each Bear gets one).
BIEB Delivery Sheet updated 12.6.19.xlsx
The sheet is a living document so please be careful if you are trying to cut and paste. I hope since this one is in Excel online we will be able to keep it current. If you signed up before and do not see your name, please put your information in again please.
Thank you again for helping us with this project!
