CAEP Update
MSU received the final site visit report with corrections from the CAEP review team on Dec. 9, 2019. We have completed a draft of the rejoinder responding to feedback from the review team. If anyone would like to provide input on the rejoinder, a hard copy is available for review in Dr. Tinkler’s office (Hill 211). We will be submitting the rejoinder on Friday, Jan. 17. Please provide input no later than Wednesday, Jan. 15.
The CAEP Accreditation Council will meet on April 24 – 27, 2020, to review the Self-Study, the Site Team Report, and our Rejoinder before making a final accreditation decision. The COE Dean’s Office will announce that decision as soon as we have it in hand.
Bull Mills Property Ready for Faculty & Students
On Thursday of last week the MSU Foundation provided COE a copy of the Estate Agreement with Bob and Barb Kipfer, owners of Bull Mills property that has been donated to COE. Dean Hough is scheduling a meeting at the property later this winter or early spring to explore options for its use. The expectation is that interested faculty will soon be able to tour the property and discover ways to incorporate environmental education and sustainability into course work, as appropriate. Several faculty across MSU colleges are already connected to Bull Mills per research agendas and personal projects. If you have an interest in touring the property and/or learning more about the opportunities for you and your students, please contact Sharon Lopinot. Sharon is the COE point person who will help coordinate visits to Bull Mills.
Condolences
Faculty and staff in CLSE and throughout the COE send a heartfelt note of support to Dr. Kim Finch and her family, per the loss of Kim’s husband, Sam, last week. Services were held Sunday.
Personnel Update
Dr. James Satterfield has appointed Dr. Jeffrey Cornelius-White to the position of assistant department head, CLSE. Jef’s term of appointment is effective immediately and will run until April 30, 2020. During this time Jef will work closely with Dr. Satterfield on annual reviews, scheduling, overseeing faculty and staff searches, and managing routine CLSE matters. In addition, Jef will attend COE department head meetings, Leadership Council, Budget Committee, P & T Seminars, Academic Administrators’ Assembly, and other meetings such as the Provost’s Academic Leadership Council when COE must be represented by the dean, associate dean, or a department head.
In December 2019, Dean Hough appointed a CLSE Department Head Search Committee with Dr. Barri Tinkler as chair. The Dean has given that committee its charge, and they have already begun their work. Dean Hough charged the committee with recruiting applicants, including those from traditionally underrepresented groups, and asked them to vet applications to produce a “short list” of qualified individuals for final consideration. Dean Hough stressed the need for members to ensure all CLSE faculty and staff are afforded multiple opportunities to participate in the new department head search process. If a permanent department head is not hired by the time Dr. Satterfield leaves the position on April 30, 2020, Dr. Cornelius-White has agreed to serve as interim department head until the position is filled, not to exceed one year. To do this in compliance with University policy, the search must be underway and ongoing.
Welcome aboard, Dr. Jeffrey Cornelius-White.
