Patty Ingle, the Director of Development and Sydni Moore, our shared graduate assistant with marketing, were introduced. Emmett Sawyer and Judy Gregg will be working with Sydni and Andrea to bring COE departmental and program marketing materials up-to-date. Dean Hough asked the group how to keep people/programs, and data updated on the COE website. The Provost Office is paying for someone to work with each department on campus. The CEFS information is completed and will go live in February. In the meantime we need to start with everyone else. Juli Panza has been working with the COE graduate assistant, Joey, since summer and have gotten a number of things updated. Judy, Emmett, and Sydni need to work with the program coordinators for CLSE and RFT. Information needs to be ongoing for special projects such as the Internship Academy, Bear Partnership, Bear in Every Building, etc. Andrea asked how involved do we want marketing/communications? She recommended it would be helpful if we worked with web strategy and design (cooperative process) at each department level. Dean Hough would like to see what we can get done and go from there. We first need to get old information off – which Judy, Emmett and Sydni could work on. The Dean sent a storyboard for a new short video on the website to Sydni. We will work on it in house unless it is determined to get outside help. A series of marketing and communications trainings will be held February 3 – 7. Sign-up is through My Missouri State. Anyone is welcome to attend them.
Yesterday Dean Hough started a twitter account, “@Davidthedean”. The goal is to have all “Bears in Every Building” following. He has been delivering some of the swag to BIEBS and often has others ask him about the group. He takes an informational flyer with him to hand out. The goal is to have 1,000 BIEBS by the end of the fall 2020 semester.
Rhonda Bishop is working with Patty Ingle on transferring BIEB information so we can have BIEBS join as one entity. There are currently 758 in the group. Patty said this information will help with events and fundraising.
The South Central Association Superintendents are meeting on February 18th in Mountain Grove. The Dean, Barri, department heads and Robin Koerber will attend. The Dean and others met with them last February and started a conversation on partnerships. The plan is to see what they are interested in. Robin reported that Cassville and Sparta will be new IA partner school districts next year and will have “paid” internships. She and Sara Tipton will be meeting with their other partner school districts in the next two weeks to determine if they can expand more paid internships to students for next year. Dean Hough said the vision is to use IA students to cover a class if the master teacher is needed to assist a different class. Interns will attend professional development program with their master teachers.
Barri explained the panel discussion that will be at the Spring Faculty Meeting on January 24th. Each person on the panel will have a brief overview of their initiative. They will then answer two questions: How does it tie in to marketing/recruitment/retention? How could faculty get involved and support your work? Barri will talk to each member of the panel specifically.
James and Denise reported that they have 28 student applications for Bear Partnership so far. James will be calling some other school districts north and south of Springfield. Liberty School District is going to pay for all of their students to attend and provide transportation. James and Denise are going to Ritenour High School on February 5th. Three of their students have sent applications. They are also going to Gateway High School, a STEM school in St. Louis. The counselor from the school is inviting other high school students in the area to attend. Ashley Flores, who is recruiting for us in Alabama, has two students who would like to attend. Dean Hough told her he would rent a van and pick up/return the students if she could get six. He added that after this year we will need to look at funding for this initiative. Crowd funding was brought up. James and Denise will talk to Patty Ingle about the program.
March 6th is the best date for everyone to go on the Bull Mills visit. The Dean will keep everyone informed.
Cathy Pearman is on the MACTE Board and attended LC to discuss a change regarding the federal licensure disclosure. The State Authorization Recruitment Agreement, (SARA), now includes that any information given to students for any program that offers licensure must have it stated that licensure is only valid in Missouri, not other states. She handed out information on how some other states are doing it. Dean Hough and Barri will work with the department heads.
Jef Cornelius-White has proposed a new graduate certificate “Student Mental Health, Family, and Community Support”. This includes courses from three areas and would help teachers, paraprofessionals and others deal with the holistic needs of students. The certificate is now at the graduate screening level and if approved, would be offered starting Fall 2020. When approved, Dean Hough will work on getting the information out to all schools.
Around the Table
Dean Hough
Sharon will email the 2019-20 COE Fact Sheet to department heads and Janice to review. Changes are due to her this afternoon. He needs to get it ready for the next Board of Governors meeting.
James Satterfield
Occasionally faculty are hired who need/want specific software. Some have requested Adobe. Adobe Suite is expensive and there is a yearly renewal fee of $100.00+. James does not believe departments can handle the additional yearly expense. Would it be better to develop a policy to facilitate these requests? There are other tech programs that also fall under this. For Adobe, you can only have a computer or user license. Ongoing charges fall on the departments. Barri asked if one person had the program, could others use it. Also, is it possible to check what faculty members would use it for? Dean Hough asked if we need to develop a draft policy which would then go to Faculty Advisory Council. Everyone agreed. Stephanie Huffman and Barri Tinkler will work on it.
Sharon Lopinot
She is working on the final numbers for the COE Faculty meeting next Friday. They are due Monday.
Janice Duncan
Enrollment is at 386. She thanked PTA for their wonderful support for a new interactive PA system that was installed. PTA also paid half to refurbish a room for tutoring. Russ Brock
A meeting for area curriculum directors will be held next week. They are in the process of setting a date to invite three to four area superintendents to a session where they will share their experiences about moving up job wise. The vision is for all teachers to be engaged in professional development that would help them throughout their entire careers.

Dean Hough
New goals for ADPs need to be in the system by January 30th. A draft document regarding Request for Proposals: Course Enhancement Grants was discussed at ALC. The purpose is to increase completion rates and/or grade attainment of selected classes. After a short discussion it was decided that COE does not have any courses with high drop-out rates and, therefore, probably should not make an application at this time.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
