Dean Hough welcomed everyone. He just finished a zoom meeting with people involved in the Internship Academy and Bears in Every Building.
All of the student interns decided to continue working online with their master teachers. The program will continue this semester and be ready to move forward in the Fall.
Marketing tools were discussed. You Tube videos go over well. Juli mentioned TikTok. You Tube videos need to be short. TikTok is along the same lines. It can be put on twitter or Facebook. It was suggested to have our graduate assistants work on these. We want to capture what students are doing during summer school classes and use it to promote our college. Again, TikTok was mentioned as a good resource. Dean Hough asked Juli if she could organize a zoom meeting and work on this with the department heads. Also wanting to be included were Robin Koerber, Sara Tipton and Rhonda Bishop. James, Michelle, and Ximena use TikTok to stay in communication with the international students they have worked with. It was suggested to ask those students how they got through the virus outbreak.
Stephanie suggested bringing in Ching-Wen and Jennice to discuss Flipgrid for discussions. It is simple and discussions can be held by posting topics to a grid. Students can record, view, upload and respond to each other through short videos.
Dean Hough updated everyone on information from a meeting with the Provost yesterday. A summer school plan was approved. The university will invest some money for summer school programs taught by our very best. They will allow per course faculty to teach classes this summer. The university is sending a blast to everyone regarding pass/not pass for spring semester only. Everyone needs to read it. Students will have different options. We do need to be careful with it. All deans need to stop spending money. Dean Hough can still use finds for marketing and recruitment. There was also a discussion on personnel. Either everyone is working from home, is considered an essential/critical employee who will be allowed on campus periodically (COE: Rose Lee, PCOB: Robin Farris, GLS: Tara Bonebrake), or be given another work assignment if available. Some staff will not be able to do any of the three. Next month a portion of the staff will be moving to 2/3 salary through the end of May. Things will be re-evaluated the end of May. Everyone reported that their staff were busy. Dean Hough said people working from home will be continually assessed.
Around the Table
Janice Duncan
She will be sending her information to the Dean regarding if their teachers all have courses ready to go and if they have contacted their students. Dean Hough reiterated that all department heads were asked to do this. Any complaints will go to them.
Denise Cunningham
She has heard from all of her fulltime faculty regarding the information above. She is still working on responses from per course faculty. She is good on all outreach campuses.
James Satterfield
He had a few faculty that needed assistance. Some of his faulty requested a zoom room if provided by the University.
Russ Brock
The ATLL consultants are meeting with people as requested virtually. They have been asked by DESE to review all of their training materials. They are working with GoCSD for future projects, and will be delivering some online sessions.
Karen Engler
Communications coming from Dean Hough have been very helpful for secondary faculty. She has follow up discussions with them when asked. She will receive the Dean’s communications through email and determine with others whether to pass it on or not.
Stephanie Huffman
Seventy percent of their mid-level students are working online with their cooperating teachers.
