The College of Natural and Applied Sciences is always trying to provide new and exciting opportunities to their students. This time, it is in the form of two new degree options in the computer science department.

Master of Science in Computer Science

Most recently approved by the Missouri Department of Higher Education is the Master of Science in Computer Science. Students in this program can start classes in fall 2017.

Dr. Jorge Rebaza, interim department head of computer science, says about this program, “Students will get involved in cutting-edge projects under the direction of experienced faculty, and graduates will enjoy a very positive outlook for employment and very well-paid jobs.”

With the ever changing nature of computers, demand for programs such as these has been increasing steadily, especially in the Midwest region.

In addition to demand, Rebaza states, “This new degree program is an opportunity for domestic and international students to pursue a dynamic career and to directly contribute to the innovation that drives the country’s economic growth.”

New software development option

Another program recently started by the computer science department is a new option in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, which is software development. This option has a set major, but unlike the computer science option, students can choose from any minor. Rebaza says this is to “encourage a multi-disciplinary degree.”

In short, computer science wants to you to be well prepared and well-rounded when pursing and achieving your dreams.
