Computer science students meet with industry professionals

Our students have a lot of career options. We want them to see the variety.

Karmak, Inc., is a software company that focuses on developing software products in automotive industries.

Kari Hannah, senior recruiter, and James Spark, senior software specialist, from Karmak, visited computer science majors April 11 at Missouri State.

Exploring career options

Siming Liu, assistant professor of computer science, was excited for students to explore another career option with industry professionals.

“Many of our computer science students are interested in working in a pure software company instead of a technology department in a traditional company,” Liu said.

About the visit

After Karmak attended a career fair at MSU in February, computer science reached out to ask Karmak if they would meet with computer science students in a seminar-type format.

Hannah and Spark introduced the company and what it was like working as a software engineer at Karmak.

They spent the rest of the time answering questions directly from students.

“Inviting employers to our department to talk to our students directly will encourage our computer science students to understand what knowledge will be used in the future work as a software engineer,” Liu said.
