Iqbal presents on virtual and augmented reality

He wants to use VR and AR to help students better understand science.

Dr. Razib Iqbal recently presented at the International Conference on Signal Processing and Multimedia Applications (SIGMAP). The conference took place July 26-28 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Iqbal, assistant professor of computer science, presented a paper at the conference.

About Iqbal’s research

Iqbal presented about a new framework for virtual (VR) and augmented reality (AR) environments. His framework allows for the real-time simulation of carbon nanocomposite reactions.

“Our framework provides researchers an easily accessible and robust tool for visualizing the interactions within VR and AR settings,” Iqbal said. “It will also be useful in an educational setting for the study of atomic molecules and their interactions.”

According to post-test surveys, participants found Iqbal’s framework helpful.

Dr. Ridwan Sakidja, professor of physics, and Iqbal took this project initiative to encourage undergraduate students in faculty research. They also hoped it would enable cross-disciplinary research within the STEM disciplines.

This successful project was funded by a NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium affiliates award which provided stipends for the student members.
