We want to make sure that our students are getting the best education.
It’s important to us that after the years and money spent on a degree, you are ready to conquer what lies after college.
That’s why we work so hard on accreditations and extra steps to show we walk the walk.
One accreditation we work on for computer science is ABET. It stands for authentic, businesslike, expert and targeted. We recently received our ABET re-accreditation.
About ABET accreditation
This process is two parts: a self-study and a site visit.
We submitted the self-study June 20, 2018, based on what we think our program is doing well and where we could improve.
ABET looks at several things:
- Computer science student’s’ data
- Program educational objectives
- Student outcomes and assessment reports
- Plans and efforts toward continuous improvement
- Curriculum
- Computer science faculty background and achievements
- Facilities
- Institutional support
Last fall, an ABET team came to MSU to visit computer science facilities, talk to MSU administrators, faculty and staff. They checked to see if their assessment of MSU aligned with our self-assessment.
The results
After almost a year of waiting, we finally have the results.
The computer science department has been re-accredited until September 2021. The computer science program has more than 400 students.
