Many MSU students are content with declaring one major and working toward it. A smaller percentage will opt to pursue a double major. Ashton Vonallmen has the super rare distinction of being a triple major. In addition to majoring in criminology, she is also looking to graduate with majors in psychology and professional writing.
What might a person do with all these specializations, you ask? Ashton intends to use her undergraduate work as a basis for the pursuit of two master’s degrees–one in history and the other in criminal justice. One of her ultimate ambitions is to teach both subjects at the college level. Ashton is currently volunteering at the Victim Advocacy Center in Springfield and potentially looking at careers related to the work she does there.
Originally from West Plains, Missouri, and a graduate of West Plains High School, Ashton has navigated our curriculum at a distance through online coursework. When asked about what she likes about her college experience, she replied that for the most part “she enjoys the freedom of being an online student” and being able to complete her schooling at all hours through the day.
Ashton has a range of interesting hobbies. She dabbles in craft activities like painting, sewing, and drawing. But perhaps the most interesting use of her spare time is shoe customization. In February, Ashton got the opportunity to hand paint basketball shoes and directly deliver them to Lebron James during a game in Memphis, Tennessee. She notes that “an NBA analyst wrote about it that was published, and Lebron himself actually shared a picture of them on his Instagram.” Pretty amazing!
Good luck with everything going forward, Ashton!
