The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice hosted its fifth Open House in the Plaster Student Union this past Monday. The event brought approximately 175 prospective students and dozens of family members from all over the state to campus to get a look at what working in this field, taking classes in this discipline, and attending this university are all about.
LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR CRIMINOLOGY PROGRAM
Professor Hass gave her teaching demo, Professor LaPrade’s mock trial team performed a practice round, and Professor Kyle led students through a crime scene scenario – all of which enjoyed incredible participation.
Several of our current criminal justice students took time out of their schedules to meet and give their insights about the program and university. We are very appreciative of all of them!
This year we had the largest agency turnout of any open house. Nearly 20 agencies were represented and we are very thankful for the time each representative took to discuss career and internship opportunities.
Special thanks this year to Cody Brewington, one of our criminal justice graduates and now the Director of Noncredit Programs and Public Safety Training at MSU, for facilitating and supervising the use of force simulation – we had numerous students express gratitude for having an opportunity to engage in that experience.
A very big thank you also is in order for two graduate students, Josh Woolfington and Emily Taylor. Although no longer official tour guides at MSU, they volunteered to show visiting students and families around campus when the number requesting tours exceeded MSU tour guide capacity.
And, the Admissions staff members, particularly Tai McCoy, Kristin Roop, and Matt Magruder, were wonderful, as always, helping get this all set up and monitoring registration!
Last, but definitely not least, Christy Titus, our department office manager, is owed a great deal of gratitude for being the backbone of everything we do here in the Department, including the open houses!
