Dear Springfield Sister Cities Association Friend,
As usual, our organization is quite busy with events and exchanges. We always need your support!
The softball team from Isesaki departed last week. It was a great exchange. These kind of visits always expose a group of people to our organization that may not normally know about us. And it is always cool to see one of the local guys, about 6’2” and 225, helping one of the Isesaki guys who is about 5’5” and 130, up after a slide and shaking hands and laughing. Thanks to all of you who came out to the games and to the other events. It really was a miserably hot few days, but everyone just rolled with it.
The Denzil and Jonathan Band plays at Lindberg’s on Commercial street tomorrow evening, Friday, July 13, 6:00-8:00. This group will be representing Springfield at the Isesaki Summer Festival in August. Stopping by Lindberg’s for a few minutes tomorrow night, having a cold drink and listening to music is a great, easy way to show your support. This group, along with the group Luna Sureste from our sister city of Tlaquepaque, Mexico will depart for Japan on August 8th, with performances on Aug. 10 and 11.
53 people (44 students) will be arriving from Isesaki on August 3. They are here for 10 days! Kazumi Holcomb, Mika Logan, Jane Robinson, and others are leading the way and planning every detail of their stay. As you can imagine, organizing every minute of every day for 53 people is quite an undertaking. How can you help? The students are having an event on Friday night, August 10th, 6:00 p.m. at the Creamery Arts Center in Jordan Valley. Please stop by! They will have demonstrations, displays, and hands-on activities.
We have a citizen’s tour group headed to Tlaquepaque Sept. 13th. Among many things on the event schedule is a meeting with Tlaquepaque’s new mayor, Mr. Alfredo Barba. These tours are always filled with optional activities, as well as plenty of free time. We are also planning a citizen tour to Isesaki and other parts of Japan next October. If you are interested in being a part of the next trip to Tlaquepaque or Isesaki, please let me know soon so I can get you on our list!!
We are planning the final details of our 17th Annual Japanese Fall Festival to be held Sept.7,8,9. We need all members of SSCA to volunteer for a 2-3 hour shift! Please reply to this email or call me at 864-1341 to sign up now!
Here is a copy of the poster for this year’s event (thank you Mika!) I am also attaching a copy for you to print off. Please, help us distribute the posters and spread the word about this wonderful 3 day cultural event.
