On Thursday, February 28th, nationally, we will be participating in National TRiO Day of Service. This is a way to show appreciation to the community for its support of TRiO programs. For millions of students from low-income families who strive to be the first in their families to attend and graduate from college, seven federally funded programs called TRiO are making a world of difference.
TRiO Programs here at Missouri State will be working with several local organizations to “give back”. All times for volunteering are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and TRiO will provide transportation. First is the YMCA (downtown), they would like us to help out by doing some painting. Ozark Food Harvest would like us to go over donations and look at expiration dates on food packaging. Also Veterans Coming Home would like us to help out by sorting through donated clothing.
For those who want to help but Thursday doesn’t work for you we have an opportunity on Friday, March 1st. The Red Cross would like us to call people who have expressed interest in getting a Red Cross license plate and give them the information (no selling, no soliciting).
We would like to have 10 to 15 people sign up for each of these places where we are volunteering. If you would like to ride together we are reserving Missouri State vans to get volunteers to each site. We would plan on leaving at 12:30 p.m. in order to arrive on time.
Please think about what TRiO Programs means to you, our students, and to you as Missouri State employees. You can call the office at 417-836-6220 and have our student worker sign you up for the activity you want to participate in.
