Adam Crawford, graduate student in the Student Affairs in Higher Education Master’s Program and graduate assistant for the Disability Resource Center, has been selected to co-present at the NASPA IV-W regional conference. His presentation is titled “From Compliance to Inclusion: Reframing Disability in Student Affairs”.
This summer Crawford attended the AHEAD (Association on Higher Education and Disability) annual conference. There he was trained on the framework and skills necessary for a career in disability resources and higher education. While he was there, he attended a NASPA members dinner where he met Joe Hartsoe, a student affairs graduate student at the University of Central Arkansas. Both were interested in presenting at a NASPA conference on how to make student affairs more accessible and inclusive for students with disabilities. The two collaborated on creating a workshop proposal entitled “From Compliance to Inclusion: Reframing Disability in Student Affairs.” They were accepted to present at the conference, and are waiting to hear if they have been selected to present at the national NASPA conference as well. Below is the program description:
Disability in higher education is often seen as only a legal compliance issue. The needs of students with disabilities, however, extend beyond basic accommodations. This presentation will review current studies about the accessibility of student affairs and offer reframing strategies that professionals can use to become more inclusive of disability.
