Members of the Latino Leadership Institute attended the USHLI (United States Hispanic Leadership Institute) 32nd Annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, which is the largest conference of its kind in the United States. This year, keynote speakers included Dr. Antonia C. Novello (Former U.S. Surgeon General), Dr. Samuel Betances (Senior Consultant, Souder, Betances & Associates, Inc), Hon. Cruz Reynoso, and Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. (President, United States Hispanic Leadership Institute). These speakers told their story of overcoming barriers as emerging Latinos in the United States and accomplishing their dreams. These individuals serve as a voice for the Latino community and emphasize the value a college education presents and anything is possible. The students returned to Springfield with a new awareness and internalized the value that Latinos hold within the emerging demographic change.
