Intersectionality is a frame, or a lens, through which the interactions of multiple forms of inequality become visible. This talk will provide an introduction to the concept of intersectionality, focused on why this approach is key for understanding and addressing gender inequality in the academy. The talk will end with a discussion of some of the challenges of utilizing an intersectional approach in gender equality studies of academic professions and offers suggestions for addressing them.
