So… it’s mid-June and we’ve just concluded the first week of SOAR, welcoming two groups of the class of 2016 to campus. Also on campus the last 2 weeks have been football players for Bears Football Team camps, referees from the Missouri State Soccer Cup tournament, the Step-Up Institute and a group of Wyman Scholars.
The Missouri Fine Arts Academy began on Sunday with over 100 high school students. They are well underway on their 3-week program of exploring the arts from various perspectives, along with performances, student presentations and exhibitions, art shows, workshops, and social events. The Missouri Innovation Academy has over 50 students working with MSU science and business faculty and learning about what happens at the Jordan Valley Innovation Center (JVIC) through the end of the month.
Here in the PSU, we are hosting the UDA Dance Camp through Sunday, so don’t be surprised if you hear music and instructors counting out dance moves. Also on campus right now we have an athletic training camp and Boys’ Soccer Junior camp which both close tomorrow, and Bears Basketball Varsity shootout today and tomorrow. Another group of Wyman Scholars, Debate Camp, and Speech Events Camp arrive on campus tomorrow.
What’s the point of having summer camps on our campus? A main reason we welcome groups of younger people to MSU is to give them a chance to get to know our campus and to feel comfortable here. When it comes time for them to make a choice about where to go to school, they may then already feel like this is a place where they will be welcome and happy. So when you see these kids and young adults all over campus, think of them as future Bears and help give them a great experience while they’re here.
We’ve been a bit slow getting started back up with the blog… sorry about that! We’ll be back on track next week.
