Thursday, August 28

Football at Northwestern State
W, 34-27Julian Burton

Missouri State kicked off the 2014 season in grand style Thursday evening, rallying from a 17-point second-half deficit to pull out a 34-27 victory over Northwestern State at Turpin Stadium. Kierra Harris matched a career high by passing for three touchdowns, including a 13-yard scoring strike to Gannon Sinclair with just over five minutes remaining in the game to put the Bears on top for good.

Women’s Volleyball at New Mexico State
L, 3-0

The Missouri State volleyball team opened its 2014 season Friday with a 3-0 loss to New Mexico State at the Utah Classic. The Bears (0-1) lost by set scores of 28-26, 25-17, 25-15, to a talented NMSU (1-0) club picked to win its third consecutive Western Athletic Conference title.

The Missouri State men’s soccer team earned their first win of the season on Friday night, after defeating the University of The Incarnate Word, 1-0. The score line may be a replica of last season’s opener against the Cardinals, but many things were different in the 2014 edition of the game.

Women’s Soccer at Tulsa
L, 3-2 (OT)

The Missouri State women’s soccer team (1-2-0) took the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-0-0) to overtime for the fourth-straight matchup, but fell in the extra session 3-2 in Tulsa on Friday night to open the Holiday Inn City Center Tulsa Invitational.

Saturday, August 30

Women’s Volleyball at Utah
L, 3-2

Missouri State split a pair of matches at the Utah Classic Saturday, falling in five sets to host Utah in the morning match and sweeping Montana State in the evening session to finish the weekend with a 1-2 record. Freshmen Lily Johnson and Lynsey Wright combined for 47 of Missouri State’s 98 kills on the day, and seniors Andrea Beaty and Maddy Hogan were selected to the all-tournament team.

Field Hockey at RiderLynsey Wright had 22 kills and hit .295 in the two matches

Missouri State sophomore goalkeeper Megan Drew made a career-high seven saves as the Bears were defeated by the Rider Broncs, 1-0, Saturday, Aug. 30, at Ben Cohen Field in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Sunday, August 30

Women’s Soccer at Oral Roberts
T, 2-2 (OT)

The Missouri State women’s soccer team (1-2-1) got a late equalizing goal from junior Alix Opfer and played Oral Roberts (0-2-2) to a 2-2 draw to wrap up the Holiday Inn City Center Tulsa Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Fellow junior Molly Brewer had a goal and an assist in the match, her fourth career assist against the Golden Eagles.

Field Hockey at Villanova
L, 4-1

Villanova University scored two goals in the first eight minutes and didn’t look back as the Missouri State Bears fell 4-1 to the Wildcats on Monday, Sept. 1, at Villanova Stadium.

Men’s Soccer at Oral Roberts
L, 1-0 (2OT)

The Missouri State Bears men’s soccer team (1-1-0) dropped a tough road contest at Oral Roberts (1-0-0) in the second extra period of Monday’s game. The Golden Eagles scored the game’s lone goal in the 104th minute off the head of Johnny Chavez.

May 7th:

Brentz, Cunningham Rake in Valley Honors at MVC Banquet

Missouri State seniors Ashley Brentz and Kerri Cunningham were named to the All-MVC second team

Missouri State softball seniors Ashley Brentz and Kerri Cunningham were recognized at the league’s award banquet with All-Missouri Valley Conference second team selections on Wednesday (May 7). It is the third straight-season that Brentz has been on an all-league team and the first honor bestowed upon Cunningham.

 

May 7th:

Bears Earn Season Sweep of Kansas With 5-3 Victory

Johnson and Matheny Go Deep Before Bullpen Shuts the Door for MSU’s Sixth-Straight Win Over the Jayhawks

A pair of clutch home runs and a strong effort from the Missouri State bullpen carried the Bears to a 5-3 victory over Kansas Wednesday evening at Hammons Field. Spencer Johnson’s solo shot sparked a two-run rally that snapped a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning, and the Bears bullpen took care of the rest with three scoreless innings to complete the win and a season sweep of the Jayhawks.

 

May 5th:

MSU Field Hockey Retains Control of Bear Cup at Showcase

Fifth annual Bears All-Sports Showcase recognizes excellence in Missouri State student-athletes

For the second year in a row, the Missouri State University field hockey team took home the night’s top honor at the fifth annual Bears All-Sports Showcase, presented by The Bank of Missouri, Monday night at JQH Arena. A number of individual student-athletes were also recognized as part of the ceremonies.

April 30th:

  • Big Offensive Day Powers UALR Past Bears, 10-6.Trojans Build Seven-Run Cushion to Send MSU to Second Straight Defeat.

UALR rode an early offensive outburst to build a seven-run lead over Missouri State, then withstood the Bears’ late push to notch a 10-6 victory Wednesday at Gary Hogan Field. Drew Merten homered, scored three runs and drove in three more to help the Trojans post the top run total by a Bears’ opponent this season.

 

 

  • Swimming & Diving Bears Land Eight on Academic All-MAC Team. Bears lead conference in number of selections.

Eight members of the Missouri State swimming & diving team have been named to the Academic All-MAC Team, the league announced Wednesday.

Straub Earns MVC Leadership and Service Award. First Missouri State Men’s Golfer to win Award since 2010.

In an effort to honor the achievements of exceptional student-athletes, the Missouri Valley Conference has created the MVC Leadership & Service Award (formerly the Good Neighbor Award). Missouri State men’s golfer Eric Straub is among 10 student-athletes named by Commissioner Doug Elgin as the honorees for the 2014 spring season.

 

April 29th:

  • Arkansas Shuts Down Bears’ Offense to Claim 4-1 Decision. Razorbacks Hold MSU’s Offense to Five Hits to Post 10th Straight Win Over the Bears.

Six Arkansas pitchers teamed up to hold Missouri State’s offense in check to lift the visiting Razorbacks to a 4-1 non-conference victory over the Bears Tuesday afternoon at Hammons Field. UA (29-18) scored all four of its runs in the second inning, then relied on a strong bullpen performance to hold MSU to just five hits in claiming its 10th consecutive win in the series.

 

 

April 26th:

  •  Harris, Hoover Pace Offense in MSU Spring Game. Kierra Harris passes for 304 yards, while Zac Hoover snags 6 passes for 156 in 27-0 outcome.

On a day when big plays were the big attraction, it was the combination of quarterback Kierra Harris and sophomore receiver Zac Hoover that stole the show. The Missouri State tandem connected 6 times for 156 yards to lead the first-team to a decisive 27-0 victory in the Bears’ annual Maroon and White spring game Saturday at JFK Stadium at Parkview High School.

Bears Rally in Ninth to Nip Kansas, 6-5
Late Offensive Explosion Erases Two-Run Deficit as MSU Wins Fifth Straight in Series With Jayhawks
Missouri State rallied from a two-run deficit with three runs in the ninth inning to claim a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Kansas Wednesday evening at Hoglund Ballpark. The Bears battled back from a 5-3 hole with three consecutive singles in the decisive frame, then benefitted from a critical two-out error to plate the game-winning run.

 

Softball Falls at No. 15/17 Missouri in Non-Conference Finale
Bears fall at Missouri in non-conference finale, 5-0.
The Missouri State softball team (25-22) got a complete game six hitter from freshman Erin Struemph, but dropped the final non-conference game of the year, 5-0, to No. 15/17 Missouri (36-12) on Wednesday afternoon in Columbia.

 

Women’s Golf Season Concludes with Sixth Place MVC Finish
Thompson Named to All-Conference Team
Missouri State women’s golf finished the Missouri Valley Conference Championship with a score of 305-303-308–916, which places the Bears in sixth of the ten Valley schools.

On April 8th:

BEARS OVERPOWERED BY TIGERS IN 9-4 SETBACK
Missouri Scores Nine Runs in Three-Inning Span to Take In-State Rivalry Game from MSU

Missouri broke out of a month-long offensive dry spell with a 15-hit barrage in a 9-4 victory over Missouri State Tuesday evening at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers erased an early two-run deficit in the fourth inning, then scored seven times over their next two turns at bat to post their best offensive performance since March 11.

 

WOMEN’S GOLF PLACES SEVENTH IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Missouri State’s Tidwell Ties for Seventh Individually

The Missouri State women’s golf team finished the UMKC’s Kangaroo Invitational: Gary Crossley Ford Kansas City Shootout in seventh place after shooting 314-318-322—954 over the two-day tournament.

 

On April 7th:

SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST LOYOLA ON MONDAY IN EVANSTON
Senior Stacia Boeckstiegel blasted a three-run home run and drove in a career high four runs in a split with Loyola

Senior catcher Stacia Boeckstiegel drove in a career high four runs in a game one win as the Missouri State softball team (22-15, 5-6) split a doubleheader against Loyola (14-19, 5-6) at Northwestern’s Sharon J. Drysdale Field in Evanston, Ill., on Monday. The Bears won game one, 10-3, and dropped the second game despite a valiant effort, 5-3.

 

MISSOURI STATE ANNOUNCES 2014 FOOTBALL SEASON TICKET PACKAGES
Bears will host five games at renovated Plaster Sports Complex this fall, starting with Sept. 13 home opener

Missouri State University has announced its football season ticket packages for the 2014 season with a five-game home slate awaiting Bears fans this fall.
