WYM: Public Affairs & Breast Concert Ever

Public Affairs Conference – Tuesday through Friday in the Union, the annual Public Affairs Conference this year focused on “Leading in a Global Society”. The 4 day long event featured speakers such as Barbara Pierce Bush (Founder and President Global Health Corps), Bill Perry (Senior Executive Accenture), and many more.

Quite Tickled Tuesday – Students showcased their comedic talents at this open-mic event at the Kaldi’s lounge. Quite Tickled Tuesday is a recurring event. Keep your eyes open for the next scheduled date.

Mulan – This past weeks SAC film was the Disney classic Mulan. There’ no SAC Film this week, but it comes back after Spring Holiday with No Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.

Breast Concert Ever – The Missouri State Ad Team and Entertainment Management Association presented the Breast Concert Ever on Thursday. The event raised money and awareness for breast cancer. It was also the last performance of local Springfield band Berch.

Student Showcase – If you dropped in at the PSU on Saturday morning, you saw potential future MSU students exploring various tables for different campus organizations. And free swag. You missed lots of free swag.

WYM: Zombies & Donald Glover Invade Campus

Last week was a busy one for the MSU campus as it hosted a week long zombie invasion.

Humans vs. Zombie – As part of Zombie week SAC put on a campus wide game of Humans vs. Zombies. A take on tag with  Zombies. How does that not sound awesome? For more on the game check out HumansVsZombies.org

Shaun of the Dead – Zombie week continued as SAC Films presented the cult classic Shaun of the Dead on Wednesday and Sunday night. This weeks film is Mulan, which can be seen at 9PM on Wednesday and Sunday in the PSU Theater.

Blairstock – If you didn’t make it out to the North Mall last Thursday, April 7 then you missed out on some great games and music! The Blair-Shannon Hall Council hosted Blairstock to support Relay of Life with everything from a wing eating contest to popcorn, music, and games.


Relay for Life Planning Committee

2011 Relay for Life – On Friday night students and others from around campus participated in Relay for Life. The top teams of the event were Alpha Delta Pi ($3,220), AWESOME ($2,415) and Bear Blitz ($2,160). Check out the MSU Relay for Life page for more info.

SAC Comedy Presents Donald Glover – On Friday, Donald Glover better known as Troy from Community or as one-third of the internet sketch group Derrick Comedy performed his stand up at the PSU theater. Set to start a nationwide tour April 16, (iamdonald.com for more info)Donald covered everything from his twitter campaign to be cast as the new Spider-Man to his early childhood trips to Home Depot. 40 minutes before the show was set to start the line to get in wrapped around the PSU and students turned out to make a standing room only crowd.

WYM: Polygamy, Murder, and Rock ‘n’ roll

Last week was pretty relaxed at the PSU as we prepared for Zombie Week this week, but there were still some great events!

Escape from Polygamy: One Woman’s Journey – As part of Women’s history month, keynote speaker Carolyn Jessop presented “Escape from Polygamy: One Woman’s Journey” in the PSU Theater on Tuesday, March 29.

SAC Films presents: True Grit – SAC films presented the Oscar nominated film True Grit in the PSU Theater this week. The film starred Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld. This week SAC Films presents Shaun of the Dead. Come back Wednesday for a preview of the film.

SAC After Hours presents: Murder Mystery Dinner – SAC After Hours let students role play a “Who Dunnit?” interactive murder mystery in the PSU on Thrusday, March 31.

Ecopalooza – Friday afternoon the Bear Paw was home to Ecopalooza. The event was an education solar-powered concert to raise awareness and support our sustainable future. The event featured bands, activities, and speakers all day!

Jack’s Mannequin – Friday was the big event of the week with Jack’s Mannequin performing for MSU and Drury students at the O’Reilly Family Event Center on Drury University’s Campus.

What you missed

If you weren’t in the PSU last week you missed more than just great food. Here’s a recap of the events that happened in and around the PSU last week.

Quite Tickled Tuesday
Students showcased their comedic talents in an “open mic” in the PSU Lounge right next to Kaldi’s. The event is open to anyone as long as you show up before the show starts and then you can test out those Chemistry one liners you’ve been coming up with in class. Don’t miss out again. Quite Tickled Tuesday happens again April 12, 2011.
