Martin Luther King Jr. Day

January 19
Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday – no classes/offices closed.

Civil Rights leader, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. , gained national prominence during the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott of 1955-1956 and soon becamse the acknowledged national leader of the growing movement to obtain civil rights for African Americans. His commitment to nonviolence, his courage, and the moral power of his vision, eloquently expressed in masterful oratory and writings, won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Toward the end of his life, King became convinced of the interrelatedness of all forms of social, economic, and military oppression and broadened the sphere of his activism. He spoke out against U.S. involvement in the war in Vietnam and was preparing to lead a massive Poor People’s March on Washington when he was assassinated in Memphis on April 14, 1968 while helping to organize the city’s sanitation workers. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday is observed nationally on the third Monday in January.

Missouri State Bears Men’s Swim Team Defeats Drury University at Drury’s Pool for the First Time in 5 Years!!!

January 24, 2013 by

A shout out to the Men’s Swimming and Diving Team for such a dominant performance in the pool at Drury University last night as they took a win at Drury for the first time in 5 years at Drury’s pool. The two teams swim against one another twice each year, once in the Fall Semester at Missouri State University and once in the Spring Semester at Drury University’s pool. Often each team aspires to win with their home “field” performance if you will. Missouri State winning the meets in Hammon’s Student Center, and Drury winning at their pool.

The competition was fierce and the atmosphere was that of an epic home town battle. Records were broken, and spirits were high with excitement as each race and each performance in diving was truly special. Both the Men’s and Women’s Swimming AND Diving Team had spectacular performances and so many that were noteworthy that I’ll leave you to read about it at the Missouri State Bears Athletics Page. It was truly a victory earned and I am very proud of the Bears for putting in the many hard hours in the pool, and weight room as well as being thankful for the sacrifices they make to represent this school.

In other news, the Bears Men’s Basketball team fell to Wichita State University last night by only 10 points.

The Lady Bears Basketball team will be taking on Evansville, and SIU this weekend so stay tuned in to find out more about what’s happening!

And the Bears Men’s and Woman’s Swimming & Diving teams will be taking on Rolla at Missouri S&T this Friday.

Last but not least the Missouri State University Track team will be competing at the Rod  Mccravy Memorial Meet in Lexington, KY on Saturday.

Lets go Bears! Fight Hard!
