This Week Ahead

How’s studying going everyone?
Here are some events this week ahead happening on or around campus:

May 10

Study Day

On May 10, 2013, no classes will be in session and this is our “Study Day” all day long. “Classes will not be held today in hopes that students will avail themselves of the various resources provided to help them pass final exams with flying colors! Offices will be open.”

May 13

Electronic Arts Student Showcase

Date, Time and Location:

6:30 PM – 8:30 PM, May 13, 2013
Plaster Student Union, Robert W. Theatre
“The 14th Annual Electronic Arts Student Showcase is free and open to the public. Visitors can experience the work produced by electronic arts students this year, including the five senior thesis projects produced in the senior thesis class.Dither: the D.I.Y. sound – a documentary about the community and communal philosophy that lies behind the do it yourself music scene.

My Daughter’s Dragon – a charming story about a young couple’s desire to have their young daughter accept her step-dad as her second father.

At the Top of Your Lungs – a high energy musical about two friends who leave a small town to journey to the big city to find their way in life.

Oriliion City – an original mobile video game designed for Ipad and Iphone play.  Come experience this game for yourself and help turn back on the power in Orillion City.

World Wise – an interactive new media experience designed to augment the World Wise exhibit at Springfield’s Discovery Center.  This project will become an active part of the Discovery Center’s exhibit starting in May.

Parking is available for free in Lot 24 after 5 p.m. (at the corner of National and Grand) or the Park and Ride Garage behind Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

Electronic Arts Student Showcase — an evening of the best work produced by Missouri State University’s Electronic Arts students.”

Finals Week Breakfast

Date, Time and Location:

10:00 PM – 11:59 PM, May 13, 2013

Blair-Shannon House Dining Center

“Come get a hot finals week breakfast and win a variety of prizes. Must have your BearPass Card to enter.”

May 14

Media, Journalism and Film Student Showcase

Date, Time and Location:

6:30 PM – 9:30 PM, May 14, 2013
Plaster Student Union, Robert W. Theatre

“The 17th Annual Media, Journalism and Film Student Showcase will highlight a wide variety of media and broadcast journalism work produced this year by the students in the MJF department.  There will be a variety of short films, TV, audio, broadcast news, and new media projects.

The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available at Lot 24 (at the corner of National and Grand) or the Park and Ride garage behind Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

A variety of great student projects created by the talented students of the Media, Journalism & Film Department at Missouri State University.”

This Week Ahead: Homecoming Weekend!!!

The week ahead is promising to be very very busy with Home Coming Weekend:

October 22, 2012

Homecoming Can We Build It Competition

1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Blair Shannon Circle Drive
“This Homecoming event is held in conjunction with the University Mission to show off student talent and support a local charity.  All food will be donated to Ozarks Food Harvest.  Organizations will build sculptures relating to the Homecoming theme out of cans and boxed foods.”

October 23, 2012

Homecoming Mocktail Competition

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Plaster Student Union, Robert W.
“Student organizations will compete in a non-alcoholic drink competition.  Drinks will be judged on taste, name, relation to the Homecoming theme, bartender’s attire, and overall appearance.

The deadline for this competition has already passed, but students are welcome to attend the event and sample drinks after the judging.

This event will be held outside the Plaster Student Union in the North Mall area.  In case of rain, the event will be moved inside the Plaster Student Union.”

Homecoming Rockstar: MSU

7:00 PM – 9:30 PM
Hammons Student Center, John Q.

“This Homecoming event showcases student talent on a grand scale.  Student organizations choose one performer who will perform a karaoke style song.  After the first round, the top 5 performers will move forward, singing a song chosen by the judges.  The top three performers receive cash prizes.

Entry for this competition is now closed, but students are encouraged to attend and cheer on their peers.”

THE BROADWAY DOLLS

7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, Juanita K.
“The Broadway Dolls, created by Broadway veteran (and MSU Theatre alum) Hollie Howard, is the undisputed official girl group of Broadway!  Hollie is joined by a roster of  triple-threats, direct from the Broadway companies of Mamma Mia!, Chicago, Rock of Ages, Memphis, Hairspray,Legally Blonde, and more.”

October 25 & 26

Haunted Campus Tour

7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, October 25 & 26, 2012
Plaster Student Union, Robert W. Across from Bear Entertainment on the 2nd Floor
“The 6th annual Haunted Campus Tour happens OCT 25th & 26th  every 20 minutes between 7 and 9 pm. Tickets cost $4 for ages 12 and up; $10 for groups of 3; $2 ages 5-11. Tickets can be purchased on the night of a tour.  The night of a tour purchase tickets inside the PSU across from the gaming store beginning at 6:30 pm.”
