College of Arts & Letters Homecoming Celebration
Saturday, October 19, 2013 — 10 AM to 1 PM
The College of Arts and Letters (COAL) at Missouri State invites you to our first-ever Homecoming Celebration. During the annual pre-game festivities, we’ll present a variety of events in Craig Hall.
You’ll have a chance to mingle with friends and other majors, connect with some of our illustrious alums, and just have some Arts & Letters fun. This is a great networking opportunity and a wonderful chance to learn more about all of the incredible things happening in your college and home department.
Student Activities:
- 10:15 — Art & Design students will create “live art” on the Craig Hall patio.
- 10:15-10:45 – What I Wish Someone Had Told Me: Advice for COAL Majors – a student led panel will discuss what new arts and letters majors should know and do to get the most out of their college experience.
- 10:45 – Theatre & Dance’s Grin & Bear It Improv Troupe will “make it up as they go” with just a little guidance from you.
- 11:30 – A group of talented Music majors will play original compositions.
- 12:15 — Meet some of the crew and watch an episode of Epilogue, the Emmy Award-Winning science fiction web series produced by Media, Journalism & Film students.
Alumni Panels:
- 11-11:45 – Making the Most of Your First Professional Opportunity. An alumni panel will discuss how you can prepare yourself to take advantage of your first professional break. The panel includes Gloria Cohen Shomo (EA, 2008), winner of the 2013 MSU Young Alumni Award. Gloria has worked as the digital/visual effects coordinator on many major Hollywood films since graduating, including: Life of Pi (2013 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects), Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and Moneyball (Brad Pitt).
- 12-12:45 – Building Community – How the Arts and Letters Help Build Stronger Local Communities. This alumni panel will discuss the many roles that the Arts and Letters play in our communities, and explain how students can successfully nurture the community ties which allow them to prosper throughout their professional careers.
