Please join us in welcoming Dr. Alan Tinkler to the Missouri State University English Department!
Dr. Tinkler will be fulfilling the roll of Associate Professor of English. In addition to his critical work on Jane Bowles, Janet Frame, and Italo Calvino, his fiction has been published in literary journals, including Post Road, Beloit Fiction Journal, and Black Ridge Review. His scholarship includes work on community-engaged learning.
As of September 1st, Dr. Tinkler is the Chair of the Board of Governors for the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty, a national consortium of 26 schools with the mission of transforming poverty studies. Tinkler, who had served as vice chair over the past year, states, “As board chair, I am excited to contribute my efforts to advance the vision of SHECP which is to expand and improve opportunities to study the meanings, causes, and consequences of poverty in a wide range of disciplines”.
He is also on the board of the Vermont Folklife Center.
In his spare time he enjoys riding his Triumph motorcycle.
On his appointment at Missouri State, Dr. Tinkler says, “I am excited to continue my focus on community-engaged pedagogy at an institution that enjoys a robust public affairs mission.”
