MSU Student Literary Competitions
The English Department is proud to announce the annual MSU Student Literary Competitions for 2019! Moon City Review, Moon City Press, and the Department of English sponsor these contests and we are now seeking entries for this year’s competitions.
Contest Categories
There are three separate contests: fiction, poetry, and nonfiction.
Eligible Participants
Any student, graduate or undergraduate, currently enrolled in a course at MSU’s main campus for Fall ’19 can enter. In fact, any such student can enter all three contests—up to one entry in each category.
How to Enter
Participants will need a Submittable account to enter. It is free and easy to acquire, here. Once you have your account, you can enter the contests by following the link below.
Moon City Press is a regional non-profit press that publishes stories, scholarship, and histories from the Ozarks, and also sponsors the Moon City Poetry Award and the Moon City Short Fiction Award, annual competitions for poetry and short story collections open to all writers.

Be sure to choose the correct category for your submission, as there are three separate submission portals for the fiction, nonfiction, and poetry competitions.
Contest Details
- One winner in each category will receive a $200 prize and publication in the forthcoming Moon City Review 2020.
- The deadline for this year’s contests is 11:59 p.m. on November 15.
- The final judges for the contest will be 2019-2020 visiting authors Erika T. Wurth, Ron Austin, and Kathy Goodkin.
