The City regularly conducts smoke testing to help detect leaks and deficiencies in the sewer system. Harmless, odorless smoke is blown into the sewer system and comes out where there are broken pipes and improper connections to the sewer system. If a home or business has a trap that does not have water in it, smoke may come up into the building. Pouring 24 oz of water down infrequently used drains a few days prior to the test can help keep this smoke from entering buildings. We wanted everyone to have a heads up this will be occurring near the campus during the month of August.
Regardless of the testing, if you see smoke, evacuate the building and call 9-1-1.
