For more than six months, our custodial team has been evaluating how we can more effectively clean our facilities and improve communications with the campus. As most of you know, we are moving most of our operations to the 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. shift, assigning all custodians in a building to a single shift, and creating Custodian Lead positions.
With any change, there are growing pains and adjustments may be necessary. Know that we are working to minimize those. We are asking our Supervisors to reach out to the Building Coordinator for each building to discuss any issues or concerns. As we work through this initial phase and you find service is getting missed, you can submit a work order, or contact the assigned supervisor, Donald Clark, Assistant Director of Facilities Management – Custodial, Cole Pruitt, Associate Director of Facilities Management, or David Hall, Director of Facilities Management.
Because we were in the process of implementing this reorganization when positions were frozen, the full implementation has been delayed. As the University finalizes its plans, we will re-assess to determine the impact on our plans, and we will communicate that to you.
Building Assignments

However, we are doing this through attrition to minimize the impact to our employees, which means some custodians will not be working these exact hours.
Custodian Leads
To increase communications and accountability, we are also creating Lead positions. These are custodians with additional responsibilities for the oversight of the quality of work for the buildings. A Custodian Lead will be assigned to a large building that has four or more custodians in the building. We will also assign a Custodian Lead to a group of smaller buildings in close proximity. These positions will clean and have responsibility for the quality of service to their building(s).
