The Missouri State University Federal Work-Study Waitlist will officially open for the 2024-2025 school year at 8:00 am on Saturday, June 1, 2024. New and continuing students interested in receiving Federal Work-Study funds for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year should add their name to the waitlist as early as possible because funds are awarded in a first-come, first-served basis.
What is Federal Work-Study?
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for their educational expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. FWS is offered to all students that meet the eligibility listed below. FWS funds are granted on a first-come-first-served basis, so early action is encouraged. Once enough students are hired to utilize all Federal Work-Study funds allocated to our institution, FWS hiring will discontinue.
Who qualifies for Federal Work-Study?
To qualify for Federal Work-Study funds, students must be eligible to receive federal student financial assistance (or Title IV aid), typically awarded through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
General fund eligibility requirements also include:
- Complete the FAFSA on studentaid.gov. Preference is given to those completed by May 1, 2024.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident AND have social security number.
- Submit all requested financial aid documentation.
- Must have Federal Need as determined by Federal Guidelines
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Enrolled in at least six (6) or more credit hours per semester.
How is Federal Work-Study Awarded?
Students who are eligible can sign up on the Federal Work-Study Waitlist to get themselves into the virtual queue to be awarded funds. Awards are made in a first-come, first-served fashion.
To sign up for the waitlist, students should sign into their MyMissouriState account, locate their Financial Aid & Scholarships card, and select the Federal Work-Study Waitlist link.
Students awarded funds but fail to secure employment will have their Federal Work-Study award cancelled. These funds will then be reallocated to other students on the waitlist.
How do I know if I am eligible for Federal Work-Study? My aid offer did not say anything about it.
Even if the aid offer from Financial Aid does not specifically mention work study, a student can still be eligible. Please refer to the eligibility criteria outlined above to determine if you qualify.
Is there a limit to the number of hours you can work as a Federal Work-Study recipient?
Student work hours are limited by the amount of the FWS award and cannot exceed 1,000 hours in any given 12 month pay period. Missouri State would like to remind students that academics should be the priority and any hours worked should not interfere with the student’s studies.
Go Bears! 🐻✨
