Rich Young and his wife, Doris, have contributed and impacted many areas of Missouri State. They have made gifts to provide faculty support and established a scholarship at Missouri State in honor of his parents, J.C. and Sarah Edna Young.
The J.C. and Sarah Edna Young Endowed Scholarship was established to assist graduates of Mountain Grove and Cabool high schools majoring in any discipline in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs. “They deeply believed in higher education,” said Mr. Young. “Demonstrated leadership and a tremendous work ethic were core family values.”
Mr. Young graduated from Missouri State in 1961 with a major in economics. While attending Missouri State, Mr. Young was president of Sigma Phi Epsilon, editor of the “Ozarko” yearbook and in ROTC. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an Army second lieutenant and earned recognition as a Distinguished Military Graduate. His service to the Army resulted in the rank of captain. Following his military career he received a M.A. degree in Economics from University of Kansas before joining the research division of the Fed. Mr. Young held the position of Senior Vice President of Massachusetts Financial Services and later became Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer, and Member of the Office of the President at Bessemer Trust Company in New York City. He recently retired as President and CIO of Welch & Forbes LLC, one of the nation’s oldest fiduciary and investment firms. Mr. Young has been a Member of the Boston Security Analysts Society as well as a member and past president of the Boston Economics Club.
