Last Thursday, June 25, Extension Agents from Kansas State University visited the State Fruit Experiment Station and Simpson’s Family Farm. Dr. Ted Carey, Professor at K-State, was the tour guide for the week-long excursion into Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri highlighting local fruit production and markets. The group arrived at Mountain Grove at noon for lunch and introductions. Dr. Anson Elliott, our director, welcomed the group. Dr. Ben Fuqua, soil scientist and blueberry researcher from Missouri State, discussed highbush blueberry culture. The group participated on a field tour of the station as well as a tour of the entomology and biotechnology labs and the Mountain Grove Cellars with explanations of the different programs by our faculty and staff. They continued on to Simpson’s Family Farm where they were treated to hay ride tour of the farm and lemonade.
