The Mountain Grove Cellars held its Advanced Home Winemaking Workshop yesterday. Class size was limited due to the hands-on nature of the workshop. We began pruning Catawba grapes this week. They are one of our hardier grape varieties, so we prune them earlier in the dormant season than the more cold tender varieties. We are leaving 40 to 45 buds on the larger vines and 30 to 35 buds on the smaller vines.
