Ozark Chinquapin

The Ozark Chinquapin catkin has the developing nuts at the base and the dried male flowers at the base.

Earlier I looked at the Ozark Chinquapins in John Avery's planting at the station and could not figure out where the female flowers were. Now that they have begun developing after pollination I can see that the female flowers are actually on the catkins along with the male flowers.
