2012 Peach Harvest

July 23, 2012 by Marilyn Odneal

The 2012 peach harvest reference plant information is as follows:

Redhaven   Peach Tree Weights (lbs) 2012
Reference Tree Row# Tree#
Date R2T20 R3T29 R4T15
6/26/2012 35.00 2.50 15.25
7/2/2012 29.25 30.25 19.50
7/9/2012 10.50 12.00 3.50
7/13/2012 8.50 21.00 1.50
7/16/2012 5.50 11.75 0.00
7/23/2012 0.00 4.00 0.00
Total lbs/tree 88.75 81.50 39.75
Average lbs/tree 70.00

First harvest date in 2012 was June 26, earlier than average (first harvest 2009 – July 17; 2010 – July 14; 2011 – July 15)

Average yield in 2012 was 70 lbs/tree, somewhat less than average but more than 2011 (2009 – Avg. 97 lbs/tree; 2010 – 167 lbs/tree; 2011 – 51 lbs/tree)

A mature Redhaven peach tree should yield about 2 to 3 bushels of peaches, or about 100 to 150 pounds of peaches. From the Crop Profile for Peaches in Missouri  http://www.ipmcenters.org/cropprofiles/docs/mopeaches.pdf the productive  life of a peach orchard in Missouri is from 15 to 20 years. Our Redhaven orchard was planted in 1993 and is 19 years old. Dr. Martin Kaps and John Avery are planning to put in a new peach orchard in 2013 to replace this one since it is declining in production.
