Hightunnel raspberry update

April 20, 2018 by Marilyn Odneal

I added 1 tablespoon of Osmocote 14-14-14 fertilizer to each bagged raspberry in the research trial today. All of the raspberries are alive, although 2 Crimson Giant plants have not yet begun growing. They are later to emerge, so I hope the two that have no emerged shoots will catch up to the others soon.

Flower buds are evident on the floricanes of Prelude (demonstration included in the raspberry project). We have been monitoring the irrigation and fertigation of Prelude with our new Watchdog Weather Station purchased from grant funds (Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, USDA). The data is accessible via computer and smartphone and records PAR light radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, soil moisture in %VWC, %EC and soil (soilless media in the grow bag) temperature. The weather monitoring station will allow us to collect much more data from the high tunnel environment.

The bagged raspberries in the research trial have all successfully overwintered.
