Our Plant Science and Natural Resources Department set up a display at the MSU Meyer Library as a supplement to the Smithsonian Exhibit Roots of Wisdom: Native Knowledge, Shared Science (March 18 – May 24).
The Smithsonian traveling exhibition explores the ways in which traditional knowledge of indigenous communities and cutting-edge Western science are being applied. While this exhibit is at MSU, additional displays of native foods used by local Native American groups, such as the Osage, will be included. These exhibits include the perspectives of food science, botany, anthropology, and history, and will highlight some ongoing MSU research related to native foods.
Our exhibit featured native crops that have been studied at the State Fruit Experiment Station in Mountain Grove as well as products and historical items. Researchers also exhibited posters of their projects on native crops.
