MSU Viticulture students prune at local vineyards

February 20, 2020 by Marilyn Odneal

Two groups of students are taking the Viticulture course – one group meets in Springfield in a classroom in Karls Hall and the other group, who connect to the course via Zoom computer conferencing, is located in various places including Miami Oklahoma at NEO coordinated by Dr. Booth, and in Missouri at Neosho and other locations coordinated by Larry Nichols. We visited two local vineyards yesterday to get some experience in pruning and training.

Jeremy Emery, Randy Stout, Susanne Howard, Jinzi Fan and Dr. Yuan Helen Zhuang brought the students to Tyler Ridge Vineyard just north of Springfield. I met the distance group at Keltoi Vineyard just north of Joplin.

The students took a tour of the winery led by Andrew the winemaker.
They then retrained vines in the vineyard.
