West Plains horticulture group visit the State Fruit Experiment Station

The horticulture group from West Plains showed a great deal of interest in our projects.

Yesterday evening, Craig Jennings, a horticulture instructor at Missouri State-West Plains, brought some students to the experiment station for a tour. The students are learning about protected culture (high tunnels, low tunnels, and greenhouses). They were particularly interested in the mushroom project, so that is where we went first. Tree Fruit Spring Freeze Update

Grape phenology and GDD accumulation

GDD base 50 = 93. We track GDD at  http://agebb.missouri.edu/weather/reports/gddTable.asp and rate the phenology stages according to the Modified E-L System http://door.uwex.edu/files/2010/10/ModifiedEichhornLorennzsystem.pdf After three nights with temperature in the 20s, April 20 to 22, there was damage on the grapes. Spring freeze

Spring freezes occurred during the last two days, with a low of 24.5° F at 5:10 am this morning.
