MSU West Plains SGA Visit

Pruning Blueberries

We started pruning blueberry shrubs today. The best time to prune blueberry shrubs is while they are dormant but before the buds begin to swell. Here in Missouri for us the best time is late February to early March. The buds are already starting to swell on some of the varieties here at the station, so we have to be careful not to damage them. The Ozark Premier plum is in bloom

The Ozark Premier plum is in bloom. One of the largest plums grown at the Station. It ripens about August 1st, has an attractive appearance, being nearly round and wholly colored outside with a bright red, tough skin. Its flesh is yellow, firm and fine grained. Pruning Workshop

It was a cold and muddy day for the pruning workshop, but several people braved the weather and attended.  Susanne and Randy discussed pruning tools and types of cuts and pruning methods for Apple, Peach, Pear and Grape.
