Summer internship 2021

Emily focused on harvest stages of both oyster and Bella mushrooms.

Emily, our summer intern, accomplished a lot this year including a significant part of the Satellite Mushroom Production project as well as completely updating the Ozarks Arboretum map. She also produced several videos on the mushroom project, primarily focusing on proper harvest techniques. We worked with several vendors who helped sell the mushrooms as well. Setting up the spent mushroom compost demonstration

Trace affixes the strings to support the tomato plants while Emily helps line up the locations of the eye bolts. Randy keeps the ladder steady.

Emily and Trace, Missouri State summer student interns, and Randy Stout, field supervisor, set up the spent mushroom compost demonstration. This demo will be featured at the Mushroom Production Workshop to be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021. West Plains horticulture group visit the State Fruit Experiment Station

The horticulture group from West Plains showed a great deal of interest in our projects.

Yesterday evening, Craig Jennings, a horticulture instructor at Missouri State-West Plains, brought some students to the experiment station for a tour. The students are learning about protected culture (high tunnels, low tunnels, and greenhouses). They were particularly interested in the mushroom project, so that is where we went first. Viticulture students prune grapevines at Nathanael Greene Park

Dr. Laszlo Kovacs, Professor of Biology at Missouri State, developed an educational vineyard at Nathanael Greene Park to highlight different grape species and hybrids as well as rootstocks. Our Viticulture students pruned the grapes this week. MSU Viticulture students prune at local vineyards

Two groups of students are taking the Viticulture course - one group meets in Springfield in a classroom in Karls Hall and the other group, who connect to the course via Zoom computer conferencing, is located in various places including Miami Oklahoma at NEO coordinated by Dr. Booth, and in Missouri at Neosho and other locations coordinated by Larry Nichols.
