As we thaw out from this deep freeze, Hammons Hall is preparing to welcome the Russell Malone Quartet to our stage on Jan. 22. Russell Malone, a jazz guitarist known for his swinging yet lyrical style, along with his rhythm section will perform as part of the Missouri State University Jazz Showcase series.
Malone grew up in Georgia where the sounds of church choirs and choruses peaked his interest in music and introduced him to his instrument. The guitar intrigued Malone, and his mother bought him his first one when he was four years old. Malone is a self-taught, world-class musician, picking up a guitar before he was in school, learning jazz from t.v. programs and CD’s and performing and touring with musicians like Jimmy Smith, Harry Connick, Jr., Diana Krall and Robert Altman. Although he has played with iconic musicians, when Malone plays with his band, he defines the sound.
Mark your calendars and reserve your tickets for this performance! It’s a great way to get out of the house without being out in the cold!
