The Wizard of Oz wowed its audiences in all three performances! The whirling tornado, explosive entrances of the Wicked Witch of the West, and well-costumed Flying Monkeys were certainly gripping. However, the performances exuded charm with their well-timed special effects, talented cast, delightful dance numbers, and additional scenes. Everything came together to transport the audience. Dorothy wasn’t in Kansas anymore, and the audiences felt like they had been whisked from Springfield into the land of the Yellow Brick Road.
While this was the last Broadway show for the 2009-2010 season, it’s not our last show. Missouri State University’s Music Department is currently preparing for its annual Masterworks concert. On Sunday, May 2, the combined Choirs and University Symphony will perform a staged version of Mendelssohn’s Elijah. It’s a great oratorio based on the Old Testament’s records of the prophet Elijah. All of the soloists featured in this dramatic performance are MSU graduates or students.
Not only are we going from musical to classical, but we’re following it up with a radio broadcast. On Saturday, May 8, Michael Feldman’s Whad’Ya Know? Will broadcast live from Hammons Hall!
