Summer Study Abroad Opportunity: 4 cities, 5 weeks, 6 credit hours

February 28, 2019 by drb1982

Join Dr. Julia Troche (Ancient Historian & Egyptologist) and Dr. Bryan Brinkman (Ancient Historian & Classicist) on a study abroad trip this summer, May 16-June 25, 2019, with the Catalyst (http://catalyst.globalizedu.com/). Deadline is approaching soon and only a few spots are left! Must apply by March 1st for university, internal scholarships and by March 8th to join the Catalyst (via the website).

Our class is called “Raiders.” We will spend 1 week in London and a second week in Paris exploring the ancient world through the physical remnants left behind in these once Roman cities, and through their world-renowned museums. We will stand inside a Temple to Mithraism, an ancient Roman temple, in London. We will look at the archaeological remains of the Roman era city that still exists below Paris’s streets. At the Louvre we will stand before Hammurabi’s Code and in London we will read hieroglyphs off of the Rosetta Stone. And this is just your first class.

After “Raiders” you would go on to explore Europe on your own with some of the friends you make on Catalyst. You will eventually make your way to Berlin and Prague where you will pick a second class: continue studying history, with “In the Garden of Beasts” a class that explores Nazism and the Holocaust. Or study gender and sexuality as part of a Psychology course, or take an art class on travel photography.
