Despite the recent changes to Missouri law regarding medical marijuana, Missouri State continues to prohibit the use, possession or distribution of marijuana, and other illegal drugs, on university premises or while conducting university business.
The university receives a significant amount of federal funds, and as a result we are legally bound to comply with the federal statutes regarding controlled substances in the workplace. These statutes include the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act, which describes the drug-free policies required at workplaces with certain federal contracts.
Missouri State will continue to adhere to federal law prohibiting the use, possession, distribution or cultivation of marijuana, including medicinal marijuana. It is important for employees to remember that they cannot consume, smoke, possess, or be under the influence of marijuana while on campus even though they might have a card or prescription permitting them to do so.
