Use It, Don’t Lose It: Vacation Time

May 1, 2024 by Deidre Mings

As summer approaches and our fiscal year ends,  remember to review your vacation leave balance.

Follow the instructions below to check your current vacation leave balance.

MyMissouristate Portal> Time & Leave Resources card> Employee Dashboard

The maximum amount of vacation leave time that can be carried forward from one fiscal year to the next cannot exceed two times the employee’s annual allowance. Any amount of leave over the maximum accumulation of two times the annual allowance is lost at the end of the fiscal year (June 30).

Ensure you do not “lose” vacation days

  • Use It! Take some time, recharge, re-energize and prevent burnout!
    • Forbes article outlines benefits of taking vacation time and indicates that taking vacation can help save your life.
  • Consider donating. You may voluntarily donate accumulated vacation time as defined in the Leave Benefits section of the Employee Handbook to the Shared Leave Pool which will aid eligible employees who are unable to work because of a qualifying event. Donations are subject to policy maximum. To donate:

MyMissouristate Portal> Time & Leave Resources card> Shared leave Pool (Requests & Donations).
