Today was our last day of service in Dallas, Texas. If I could go back in time and do it all over again, I would. Every experience we have had here in Dallas in the community has been rewarding and life-giving. I think part of the reason we were put on this Earth is to give everything we have to the people around us. I mean that in a very physical and emotional way. Life is all about the experiences we have while we are here, so if we are not giving everything about ourselves to the people around us, we are doing ourselves and people in our lives a disservice.
I am proud to say that every participant on this trip gave everything they had to the individuals with which we were working. Every single participant had their unique qualities that contributed to the amazing experiences and accomplishments of the group. I have honestly been surprised every day by the willingness of the group to give themselves and be their true selves around everyone we encountered.
Ali was a blessing when interacting with the youngest children we worked with because of her loving personality and ability to be patient with them. Meagan’s bubbly and energetic personality was sure to brighten any child’s day. Kyle and his sturdy back were helpful every time a child wanted a piggy back ride or wanted to be lifted high enough to dunk a basketball–which was a lot more often than I am sure he expected. Hillary did an excellent job interacting with all of the children because of her amazing artistic abilities. Susan’s beautiful smile and calming personality was extremely helpful when any child acted out or was saddened by an unexpected event. Tricia was so good at making sure every child felt included and was really helpful in times of disorder to regain control. Ryan was able to connect with every child he interacted with and was able to show love and compassion while still being very real with them. I could not have asked for a better partner in this trip than Claire. She did such an amazing job of taking away stress, as well as preventing it by being on top of things and keeping me in line. I cannot say enough good things about the advisers that came with us on the trip. Katie and Cara honestly felt more like part of the group than advisers. Katie was so sweet and gentle with the kids and served as an excellent resource when Claire and I needed anything at all. Cara’s selfless personality was the perfect solution for any situation that may have caused stress such as a injured child or schedule out of whack.
I could not have been blessed with a better team to work with on this trip. I am grateful for the community partners with which we have made relationships. I am taking far more away from this trip than I could ever blog about or even put into words. I am grateful for this experience and I am excited to see what the future may hold for the members of this trip and everyone we have worked with.
