As excited as I am to sleep in my own bed tonight, I know part of my heart is staying in Dallas when we leave today. Because this is my second year here in Dallas with Bear Breaks, I feel a deep connection with everyone we have interacted with for the second time. I know I have only been here for less than a week at a time, but it does not take much to fall in love with this community. The first time I visited, I learned so much about the love and willingness to help this community had for everyone who enters it. The second time around, the idea was only supported by the hospitality showed by everyone we interacted with.
I cannot say enough good things about Wesley-Rankin. Right in the heart of West Dallas, it offers a refuge of love and source of knowledge for all members of the community. While it serves mostly children, adults also take classes at the community center. Even though I am Pre-Medicine and destined for medical school, I feel this won’t be my last interaction with Wesley-Rankin. Like I said, I feel like I am leaving a piece of my heart in Dallas and most of it could be found at Wesley-Rankin Community Center.
Usually I don’t look forward to long car rides, but I have grown to love every single person on this trip and I most certainly look forward to laughing and talking almost the entire way home. See you soon Springfield.
