Going into this trip I knew that I would be volunteering but beyond that I did not know what to expect. This trip has been amazing and adventurous from the 10 hour car ride, to pulling weeds at a park and learning about the pros and cons of the Beltline, then working with people on resumes at the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency, and riding the MARTA to get where we need to go. Today was just as amazing and adventurous! We got to work with the West End Community Urban Garden and Nursery moving compost piles and building a small greenhouse. We also got to take a tour of the garden and Mrs. Green (the lady who runs the garden) told us all about the different plants that she grows in there. Mrs. Green also made us a drink called hibiscus sorrel tea and it was DELICIOUS! A welcomed, unexpected thing that happened was that twenty women from Spelman College were also there volunteering on there Spring Break and it was a great experience to talk with them as we did service. We got our hands dirty, got to know each other, and got to learn more about the garden. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this week has in store!
Have an amazing Spring Break!
