Today in the break bears Dallas trip we went to an AMAZING organization called the Vogel-Alcove. We learned it was the only organization that provides that type of love and care for homeless children in the United States. It was breath taking to be able to walk around the facility and see all of the awesome things that the Alcove provides for the young child. The tour guide and volunteer coordinator, Bryan, was very helpful as he was willing to show us all of the facility. We were collectively shocked to find out that the Alcove goes through around 2000 diapers per week and depends solely on donations which is a heavy task.
The trip members also went to Wesley-Rankin where we got to learn about the tight knit family connection that is interconnected among the mutigenerational population that utilizes the center. We also were also able to branch out and begin to plan our tasks for the upcoming week. “Official first day” of day camp where we will be working with the children in terms of helping them identify with their personal identity, is tomorrow. I think this will be a life changing event as we as college students learn to develop our identities as well.
